The Dental Implant Process from Lorton-Springfield Dental Implant & Oral Surgery
Dental implants are a beautiful, effective, and permanent solution for missing teeth. They provide excellent dental function, are easy to care for, and look just like your natural teeth. Implants are the most innovative option for restoring missing teeth, improving drastically upon traditional options.
Dr. Snehal Patel specializes in placing and restoring dental implants. He uses innovative technology to provide his patients a beautifully enhanced smile that lasts a lifetime.
Why Should I get Dental Implants?
Dental implants and their prosthetics are superior to most dental appliances. Besides regular brushing and flossing, they do not require additional maintenance. There are no messy adhesives to deal with, and your tooth is fixed firmly in place. Implants won’t affect your eating habits or speech, and they never slip out of place. Dental implants are also designed to minimize bone loss, as the titanium posts replace the root of your missing tooth.
Dental implant treatment is typically completed in two visits, several weeks apart. During the first phase of the procedure, Dr. Patel will give you a sedative to keep you comfortable, and then he will secure a titanium post, or posts, where your tooth’s root used to be. The implant will fuse with the jawbone, providing a sturdy base to attach an implant-specific crown, bridge, or denture. The fusing process, called osseointegration, makes your dental implants much stronger and sturdier than other tooth replacement options.
The Healing Period
It will take several weeks for osseointegration to occur, and for your jaw and gums to heal. It is not uncommon to experience some bleeding, swelling, and some discomfort the first few days after your oral surgery. Once your smile has recovered, your dentist will complete treatment with a custom restoration.
Attaching the Crown, Bridge, or Denture
Your tooth replacement will be connected to the implant via an abutment. Implant crowns restore individual teeth, while bridges and dentures are best for multiple teeth gaps. Each option is custom-made to your smile, ensuring a confident and comfortable bite
